Welcome to Meals on Wheels (Jersey)

Since 1962, Meals on Wheels (Jersey) has delivered hot, nutritious meals across the Island to those who need a little extra support. Whether due to age, illness, or circumstance, our service ensures people can enjoy regular, affordable meals in the comfort of their own homes.

Our volunteers help prepare and deliver meals four days a week —

all with a friendly smile and a helping hand.

About Us

Meals on Wheels (Jersey) Society is a registered charity (No. 234) and a member of the Association of Jersey Charities.

The service began in 1962 following a request from the Medical Officer of Health to deliver hot meals to elderly residents in the town area who lacked cooking facilities. Initially organised by a sub-committee of the Standing Conference of Women’s Organisations, around 50 people received meals twice weekly.

As needs have grown, so too has the service. In 1975, Meals on Wheels became an independent organisation. Today, around 110 recipients Island-wide benefit from meals delivered Tuesday to Friday through 22 delivery routes.

We purchase meals at cost from the Hospital Catering Service, and they are delivered free of charge thanks to the generosity of our volunteer drivers. At our kitchen based in the Enid Quenault Centre, volunteers dish the meals into individual portions before they are loaded into hot boxes for delivery.

Our service operates entirely through the goodwill of volunteers and with the support of Jersey's Parishes. We receive no States funding and maintain very low administrative expenses.

Request a Meal

We provide hot, two-course meals four days a week — Tuesday to Friday — delivered directly at lunchtime to people’s homes.

Referrals usually come from GPs, Family Nursing & Home Care, Occupational Therapists and Social Services. However, individuals may also contact our Coordinator directly.

Meals and Nutrition

All meals are prepared by the Hospital Catering Service using a two-week rotation with two choices per day. We aim to send meals suited to each recipient’s dietary needs and preferences, avoiding known dislikes wherever possible.

Meals are reheated on-site by a dedicated hospital chef and then portioned by volunteers for delivery.

Interested In Helping?

Our service depends on the support of volunteers. We’re always looking for:

  • Drivers to deliver meals (routes typically take around 2 hours)

  • Helpers to dish up meals at the Enid Quenault Centre,
    St. Brelade

Most volunteers help once every two weeks — your support makes a real difference.

Meals-on-wheels is an independent voluntary service which delivers hot meals to those who are unable, perhaps temporarily, to cook for themselves.

We can deliver up to four meals a week – Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (except Public holidays).

The cost is currently £4.50 per meal.  This can be paid daily when the meal is delivered or monthly when an invoice is sent out that can be settled by cheque or internet banking.

Meals consist of a hot main meal and a pudding delivered between 11.45 and 1pm.  The meals are supplied from the Hospital Catering Service based on a 4 week rotating menu and should be eaten straight away while hot.

We can provide any of the special diets available from the hospital kitchens.
